Foollowing discussions with research and administrative staff at EUI in Florence, CEU in Vienna and NUI in Galway, the leadership of UMB has decided to establish a UMB Doctoral School – a workplace formed at a rectoral level under the responsibility of the Vice-Rector for Research. The idea has been built on ideas and inspirations from all co-operating institutions as well as from the EUA – Council for Doctoral Education. The aim of the Doctoral School is to improve the quality of doctoral education, to strengthen the support for doctoral candidates by offering them a wide range of courses, leading to better employability, and to advance professional development of supervisors.

The school builds on the European Charter for Researchers and Code of Conduct, and the HR Excellence in Research Award (UMB recieved it in 2018) and on the future committment of UMB to co-create a joint doctoral school with universities from the University Alliance EMERGE.

The internal directive on the UMB Doctoral School was drafted in August 2024 and will be discussed and should be accepted at the leadership meeting in September/ October 2024.
