In June 2025, Dr. Jozef Michal Mintal attended the European Political Science Association (EPSA) Annual Conference in Madrid, held from June 26 to 28, 2025. The EPSA Annual Conference is a leading international event in political science, bringing together scholars from around the world to share and advance cutting-edge research.
Dr. Mintal presented a paper titled “The Paradox of Representation: How Identity Fragmentation Complicates Voter-Party Congruence,” co-authored with colleagues from the Central European University (CEU). It asks how democratic representation should be measured in an era of increasingly individualized and volatile political identities, and introduces a novel framework—multi-point congruence—for assessing representation in contemporary democratic societies.
In addition to presenting his research, Dr. Mintal also participated in the roundtable discussion “A New Wave of Social Movements in CEE and Turkey?” together with Filip Kostelka, Gizem Arikan, Endre Borbáth, Fanni Toth, and Marta Vukovic, under the chairmanship of Đorđe Milosav.
