Vote Compass (Volebný kompas) is an advisory application for electoral voting, created to help citizens make informed decisions in the Slovak parliamentary elections of 2023.
Vote Compass allows users to respond to 39 statements covering a wide range of current political topics and values in Slovakia. Subsequently, the compass shows users which parties align most closely with their preferences, using visual tools to illustrate where the user and political parties or movements are positioned within the Slovak political spectrum.
Vote Compass is part of a larger, long-term academic project, euandi, focused on European elections, as well as the Horizon Europe BRRIDGE project. In 2019, euandi reached a record 1.28 million users. For the third time, following the European Parliament elections in 2009 and 2014, this pan-European electoral advice application helped citizens identify the most suitable parties aligned with their preferences, both within their own countries and across the European Union. To expand the scope of the project, euandi has been replicated for the German federal election in 2021, the French presidential election in 2022, the Italian parliamentary election in 2022, the Estonian parliamentary election in 2023, and now for the Slovak parliamentary election in 2023.
Vote Compass is designed to provide a politically neutral source of information for Slovak voters, detailing the positions of political parties and movements without favouring any of them. Vote Compass kompas is based on independent academic expertise, is completely free, and can be used by all interested parties without distinction.
In addition to offering voters (and parties/movements) a useful tool, Vote Compass also generates highly relevant scientific data for researchers and practitioners interested in political parties and elections. This data will subsequently be made available to the wider academic community, fully compliant with privacy protection standards.
